Waters (ex-Port O'Brien) Posts New Track as Free Download / Band Plays Three NYC Shows in JuneWaters is the new project from ex-Port O'Brien front man Van Pierszalowski. Following the demise of that band last year, he took a break from making music and ended up living in Oslo, Norway. After some time off, he began writing again, then traveled most of the next year to Alaska, California, and Brooklyn, NY, before returning to Oslo to record the album with a band he put together. The album, like "For The One," has a louder, fuller, more aggressive and raw sound than anything he's written before, and was recorded in Dallas with John Congleton (St. Vincent, Explosions In The Sky, The Walkmen).

Waters just played the Immergut Festival in Germany last weekend and will support Wye Oak in Europe before coming to NYC to play the Northside Fest and a Mercury Lounge headlining show later this month.

Switzerland's We Loyal Wind Up Five Nights in NYC with Shows at Fontanas on Feb. 10 and Cameo Gallery on Feb. 15

Switzerland's We Loyal Wind Up Five Nights in NYC with Shows at Fontanas on Feb. 10 and Cameo Gallery on Feb. 15Switzerland's We Loyal made their US debut earlier this week with a show at Trash Bar and the band is currently in the middle of a series of five local shows.

The final two shows are Thursday, Feb. 10th at Fontans and Tuesday, Feb. 15th at Cameo Gallery. At Thursday's show, We Loyal are playing with Beneficial Tomatoes and Secret Country and cover is $7.

For the show next Tuesday at Cameo Gallery, We Loyal are playing with Chica Vas, Nihiti and Hard Nips.

We Loyal was founded mid 2008 and the band is made up of Ben Kuster (Bass, Synths, Vocals), Sandro Simon (Vocals, Guitar, Synths) and Fabian Trümpy (Drums, Synths, Vocals). Last year, the band released their debut EP “Obstacles” which was produced by David Berger (Balloons a.o / Liverpool) and Manuel Bürkli (Mañana / Basel). All the songs are influenced by various settings and places of origin, playfully combining analog synthesizers with striving beats and dark vocals. Bands such as TV on the Radio, Joy Division and Foals leave their traces in this play of light and shadow.

The EP reaches open ears and hearts – it gets critically acclaimed by blogs and radios all over Switzerland and Germany and in the following months We Loyal will play over 30 Clubshows and Openairs with bands such as Foals, Wolf Parade, Rain Machine, Wild Beasts, These New Puritans a.o. and release remixes for several swiss artists, which again are reviewed with enthusiasm.

“As we got in touch with the DIY scene in Liverpool we started to realise, that interesting music starts in your head, through your commitment, experimenting in a critical way and your decision to go your way”, says Sandro Simon. And with these words We Loyal take their fate into their own hands, from recording and mixing to artwork and merchandise.

My Pet Dragon Plays Cameo Gallery on May 14th

DOWNLOAD: My Pet Dragon - "Lover in Hiding"

My Pet Dragon Plays Cameo Gallery on May 14thBrooklyn's My Pet Dragon is playing Cameo Gallery (in the back of Lovin' Cup Cafe, 93 N. 6th Street, Williamsburg) on Friday night. The band released a new maxi-single, "Lover in Hiding", last month (which is available on iTunes) as a teaser for the band's second full-length, Mountains and Cites, which slated for a Fall release on Gimme That Sound Productions.

My Pet Dragon plays well-crafted alt-rock and vocalist/songwriter Todd Michaelsen has a tenor voice that falls somewhere between Thom Yorke and Muse's Matthew Bellamy. My Pet Dragon's first disc First Born caught the ear of DJ and producer Karsh Kale, who had Todd write and sing three songs on his 2006 album Broken English and appear on Breathing Under Water, his 2007 collaboration with Anoushka Shankar.

This new disc was produced by Stephen George (aka Stevo - drummer from Ministry). Blown away by First Born and a demo of Todd’s new compositions, George offered to produce and release the next My Pet Dragon record on his newly formed label, Gimme That Sound Productions. Recorded in a barn in the Catskills, the new songs were inspired by classic and contemporary artists but invoke a unique ethereal sound driven by Todd’s frenetic guitar strum and melodic tenor voice.

Tickets for Friday's show at Cameo Gallery are $8.00 and My Pet Dragon play at 11PM.

Julie Peel Plays Last Minute Show at Cameo Gallery Tonight (20th/Dec)

Julie Peel Plays Last Minute Show at Cameo Gallery Tonight (Dec. 20th)Canada-to-Brooklyn transplant Julie Peel has announced a last minute full-band show tonight at Cameo Gallery opening for Uninhabitable Mansions (which is a new band that features members of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Au Revoir Simone, Radical Dad, and Dirty On Purpose).

Julie takes the stage at 8PM tonight - cover TBD.

Julie released her well-received debut CD Near The Sun (American Laundromat Records) a few months ago which I thought sounded like a cross between Michelle Shocked and Lisa Germano. Below is a live solo performance of one of the songs from Near the Sun along with a Weezer cover.

Drink Up Buttercup Play Cameo Gallery (in Williamsburg) Tomorrow Night, May 9th (Kanine Records)

DOWNLOAD: Drink Up Buttercup - "Sosey & Dosey" (MP3)

Drink Up Buttercup Plays Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg on May 8thDrink Up Buttercup's performances have been compared to "spectacle of a circus, the buzz of a bar-room sing along, and the comfort of a nursery rhyme" and almost every single reviewer mentions a comparison to The Beatles. I've seen some pictures of the band leading sing-alongs from the middle of the room and this reminds me of the early-on Akron/Family shows (which means tomorrow's show should be a great time).

Drink Up Buttercup recently signed to Kanine Records who released their US debut 7" last month - "Farewell Captain/Sosey & Dosey". The band is playing tomorrow night at Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg with Knight School and We Are Country Mice.

Cover is $8.00 at the door.
