One of my favorite NYC bands, The Kin, just finished their tour with Josh Kelley and Pat McGee and are headlining a show at Highline Ballroom on November 21st.
It is great to see the band's popularity soar as they are great guys who put on a phenominal live show. The band is playing with Wakey Wakey and Dan Torres. Tickets are only $12 in advance and $15 day of show.
The band was supposed to be playing a live set at Vintage Vinyl record store in Fords, NJ on November 20th. I am wondering if this show is now off as The Kin are no longer listed on the Vintage Vinyl site and Sebastian Bach is now doing an autograph signing at Vintage Vinyl the same night.

The Kin Headline the Sixth Annual September Concert on September 11th
I can't think of a band more perfectly suited than The Kin to headline the September Concert. The September Concert is a worldwide event first organized in 2002.
In its sixth year, the event will take place on the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy with free concerts happening simultaneously all over the world, spanning 55 US cities and over 50 cities around the world.
Haruko Smith, concert organizer and founder of the September Concert Foundation had the following to say about The Kin -- "The first time I saw them on a morning show on FOX, I was about to run out of my apartment. Instead I sat down, mesmerized and deeply touched by their music.I am so excited to be able to welcome The Kin to headline The September Concert at Union Square on September 11th, because I cannot wait to share their music with more people on this day. I think the beauty, the depth, and the dignity of their music will be so appreciated by anyone fortunate enough to be there."
I watched the band's performance on FOX as well and also found it very moving (link). I wish I could be at this show but working in central Jersey eliminates any possibility.
The show is in Union Square (14th Street & Broadway) and is free. The Kin will be playing from 12:45 - 1:30PM and there is a citywide sing-along of "I Believe in Music" at 2pm.

The Kin @ The Delancey, July 18, 2007

The band was coming off a sold-out show at Joe's Pub and, as always, sounded great. It really says something for The Kin's musicianship that they could hold the audience AFTER the free beer ran out.
Isaac made a comment about the large number of palettes of beer were drunk that night. (I am not sure how much beer is on a palettes but there seemed to be dozens of cases that were consumed).

The Kin are playing this Saturday night at the Gramercy Theatre with Lez Zeppelin (the all-female Zeppelin cover band). This show is Lez Zeppelin's CD release party and their new CD was recorded with Zeppelin engineer Eddie Kramer.
This should be a fun show. As both The Kin and Lez Zeppelin have individually sold out the Bowery Ballroom this year, there is a good chance that this show will sell out. Don't wait to get tickets!
The Gramercy Theatre is at 127 E. 23rd Street(between Lexington and Park Ave. South). The show starts at 9PM and tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of show.

Second Dan @ The Delancey, July 18, 2007
Second Dan was the second band to play at the Barons Beer sponsored AusFest and I really enjoyed their sound. The band's bio describes their music as "combining the pop sensibilities of Foo Fighters and Janes Addiction with the passion and world-view of U2 and countrymen Midnight Oil" and this is a pretty accurate description. The band is currently finishing their debut CD, "Bring Down Goliath", which is due to be released later this year and their are a couple tracks from this release streaming on the band's MySpace page (link below).
The band has a show this Friday (July 27) at Crash Mansion and are scheduled to take the stage at 10PM.

Tamarama @ The Delancey, NYC, July 18, 2007
Barons Beer hosted AusFest this past Wednesday to celebrate the launch of their new craft beers. Aside for free beer and meat pies, three great Aussie bands played.
Tamarama opened the show and played a very enjoyable mellow set. I hadn't seen the band before but was reading that they just released a new EP, Wonderland City, earlier this year. Tamarama is playing the Gramercy on August 1st with Ryan Cabrara and Pianos on September 12th.

The Kin Headline Joe's Pub on Thursday, July 12th
I have been a big fan of The Kin since seeing them live at Bowery Ballroom earlier this year. I would expect the band to be fabulous in such an intimate venue. Tickets are only $15 are the show starts at 9:30PM.
I have written at length about the band so I won't rehash any old ground (links to older posts are below). I just ran across links to an in-depth intereview the band did with Joe's Pub (link) and the band performing Great Divide live on Fearless TV (link).

The Kin @ Luna Lounge, Brooklyn, NYC June 27, 2007
The Kin continue to put on a fabulous live show. At last Wednesday's show at Luna Lounge, the band played as a three-piece (Isaac, Thorry and Shakerleg). Both the band and the crowd seemed very relaxed which made for a nice set. I only caught the end of the act before The Kin (and didn't catch their name) as I stepped out to find some dinner. For the few songs that I did see, the crowd chatter seemed as loud as the band. This wasn't the case for The Kin. The band played a 50 minute set and held the crowd's attention from start to finish.
Even though the band played as a three piece, the music didn't seem to lose any of its richness. The band seemed to have a lot of fun during the set and check out the picture below of Thorry on drums.
The band's next show is at Gramercy Theatre on July 28 2007 and the band will be opening for Lez Zeppelin (who has Helen Destroy [x-Lunachicks] on drums).

The Kin Are Playing Luna Lounge in Brooklyn on June 27th
The Kin are one of my favorite local bands and they are headlining a show at the new Luna Lounge on June 27th. The band is a great live act and they played a stellar show when they headlined at the Bowery Ballroom back in April.
The Luna Lounge should be a great venue to see The Kin play as the sight lines and sound are great. The Kin are scheduled to play at 9:30PM but I would recommend getting to the club early to check out the opening acts. I'm a fan of Brian Grosz who is going on at 7:30PM and this show is his CD release party.

All I can say is -- get there early!
The show at Ralph Lauren starts a mini-tour of the Mid-Atlantic. The band is back in the area for a show at Luna Lounge in Williamsburg on June 27th.

The Kin @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC April 28, 2007
The Kin held the crowd riveted at their sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom last Saturday night. The band is releasing their first CD Rise and Fall on Aletheia Records later this summer but the crowd seemed to know the words to all of the band's songs. This looks like a band that is going to break out.
Here is what the band posted to their MySpace page after the Bowery Ballroom show:
Bowery Show
Monday after the bowery show - wanted to thank everyone who came and made it such a fun show to play for - its all you!Links:

The Voyces @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC April 28th
I only caught the last couple songs by The Voyces but they were quite enjoyable. They had sort of a mellow roots-rock/Neil Young thing going on.
The band's new EP Kissing Like It's Love will be released on May 8th and there is a listening party on May 9th at Hi-Fi in the East Village. Here are the details on the listening party.

The Kin - Exclusive Interview and Pictures from Pre-Show Party
There was a pre-show artshow at Pure Project Art Space before The Kin's show at the Bowery Ballroom last Saturday night. The pre-show featured a showcase of paintings by artist Patrick Madden who painted these works while listening to The Kin's music.
I took a few pictures at the pre-show and had a chance to interview The Kin backstage at the Bowery Ballroom.
Note to Self: Bring a video camera next time to film interviews -- the built-in video capabilities of my Fuji aren't that great.
