Happy Mondays will be performing at Tony Wilson's In The City of New York event. The band will be headlining the first night of the event, performing on June 13 at the Nokia Theatre along with The Rakes and The Pigeon Detectives. The band is playing the next night, June 14, at the Highline Ballroom and supporting bands are Biffy Clyro, Blood Red Shoes, and Enter Shikari.
The band played its first US show since their 1991 Pills 'n' Thrills And Bellyaches tour at Coachelle on April 29th. This set marked the premier of four new songs -- the Monday's first new material in 15 years. The complete set list for the Coachella show was:
01 Loose Fit (From 1990's Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches)
02 Kinky Afro (From Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches)
03 Rev Black Grape (From 1995's It's Great When You're Straight)
04 In The Blood (new)
05 Hallelujah (From 1990's Hallelujah)
06 Deviants (new)
07 Jelly Bean (From Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches)
08 Step On (new)
09 Angels'N Whores (new)
10 24 Hour Party People (From 1987's Squirrel & G-Man)
Dancer Bez had visa problems and was unable to perform with the band at Coachella. Given the number of bands recently who have had to cancel shows due to visa problems (Mystery Jets, M.I.A., Handsome Furs), it will be interesting to see if Bez is allowed into the States for the NYC shows. For anyone who missed the Coachella show, I heard a rumor that the Happy Mondays' set will be rebroadcast later this month on the AT&T Blue Room site.
The Happy Mondays recently signed to Sactuary Records who will (hopefully) be releasing the band's new CD, Uncle Dysfunktional, sometime later this year.
