The Nico Blues Release "Die Happy" EP As A Pay-What-You-Will Download

The Nico Blues Release 'Die Happy' EP As A Pay-What-You-Will DownloadThe Nico Blues are a last wave rock band from New Jersey. Their new EP "Die Happy" was released on February 29th, 2012 and was recorded, produced, and mixed in the band's basement. In reviewing the new disc, JerseyBeat.com said "This is a band that segues seamlessly from starry-eyed psychedelic shoegaze (“Dementia In Three Dimensions”) to rootsy Americana with a twangy, toothsome crunch (“Melodic Death Jam”) to earwig melodic pop (the Minneapolitan “I Could Be Your Pet,” equal parts Soul Asylum and Replacements.)"

The first full-length album titled Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements was released on their own Tiny Giant Records imprint in June 2010. In true DIY spirit, The Nico Blues book all of their own shows and have organized bands in the community through the Tiny Giant Artist Collective, which they co-founded. As a result, they have gained a devoted regional following.

Upcoming Shows:
March 11 - Sunrise Festival - A Benefit for Japan, Public Assembly, Brooklyn
* Show is all ages and runs from 2PM - 11PM; Cover is $5 before 5PM and $10 after

March 18 - Webster Hall, NYC (call before heading out - show isn't listed on Webster Hall's site)

The Nico Blue Release New Video for "Folk Song Number Two" / Show at Hiro Ballroom on July 1st with Blind Mellon

Local band The Nico Blues have a knack for crafting the perfect indie pop song and they have just released a new "guitar cam" video for "Folk Song Number Two" (from Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements).

Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements, along with a a demo and the band's 2009 EP are posted as free downloads on their website (Nico Blues). It is somewhat sad how bad the music industry has gotten as this is the sort of music that people once paid for.

The Nico Blues have a number of upcoming shows in the area, including a slot opening for Blind Melon at Hiro Ballroom. Here is a run-down of the band's upcoming shows:

- June 18: Northside Festival Whatever Blog Showcase, Red Star Bar, Brooklyn
- June 25: Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ (Cover is $8)
- July 1: Hiro Ballroom, NYC (w/Blind Melon - Tickets are $25)
- July 7: Bar Matchless, Brooklyn
- July 28: Bruar Falls, Brooklyn

The Nico Blues Release New Video for "Living Proof" (from Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements)

Local band The Nico Blues have taken the viral approach to building a fan base and have been giving away some high-quality music for free over last two years. The band has a demo, their 2009 EP and their current disc, Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements, posted as free downloads on their website (Nico Blues).

I've had the band's EP on my iPod for the last few months and it has consistently gotten a number of plays. The band has an overall layered psychedelic sound which they send into high-gear on some tracks by bringing in elements of garage rock. The Nico Blues complements their music with dead-on (often echo drenched) harmony vocals and the end result is something better than most of the CDs in Best Buy's "New Releases" rack.

The band has just released a new video for "Living Proof" (from Blame the Boredom, Blame the Basements).
