Across Tundras: Nashville Americana-Doom Band Plays Union Pool on April 20th (Neurot Recordings)

Nashville, Tennessee's panoramic country crushers Across Tundras' Neurot Recordings debut, Sage, was released in May 2011, capturing the band's heritage perfectly, through an amalgam of haunting doom-tinged Americana, melding echoes of traditional country blues and psychedelic sludge. Their organic sound is well-honed, marking it as their most fully realized album to date with all of their influences and elements flowing cohesively.

Across Tundras will be heading "out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels" on a massive American tour this Spring in support of their Neurot Recordings debut Sage. The band also pressed and hand-screened 300 copies of Sage on 2xLP as well as a brand new split 7" with fellow Tennessee heavy psych rockers Hellbender, especially for these tour dates. A Storm of Light Start Coast-to-Coast Tour Next Month; Show at Union Pool on March 18th

Brooklyn ambient/doom metal band A Storm of Light are heading back on the road next month for a coast-to-coast tour that finishes up with a show at Union Pool on March 18th.

For most of the West Coast shows, A Storm of Light is playing with Shrinebuilder. Harvestman is along for a few of the West Coast dates as well and there are shows with US Christmas, Via Vengeance, Rumanian Buck, Batillus, Indian, and Battlefields on some of the other tour stops.

A Storm of Light is touring behind their second release Forgive Us Our Trespasses which came out late last year on Neurot Recordings. Kerrang described this disc as "focused on song-craft and what unfolds is a majestically epic and intimidating soundscape. A haunting, bleak and impressive record."

Shrinebuilder's Self-Titled Debut Now Available on Ltd Edition Vinyl (Neurot)

Shrinebuilder's self-titled debut is now available as a 3-sided limited edition vinyl release through Neurot Recordings' web store (click on the picture). This 2LP set was mastered at 45 rpm to bring out the band's sound and one of the sides is etched (which you can sort of see in the picture).

Neurot has only have 400 copies available through its web store - 200 of the US color scheme and 200 of the European color scheme - so these are likely to go quick.

Grails - Redlight CD Review

Neurot Recordings included a copy of the Grails' 2004 release Redlightwith my last order. I hadn't heard the Grails prior to receiving this CD but was impressed with their sound. I find that it takes a lot for an all-instrumental band to hold my attention but the Grails succeeded.

The CD starts off with a cover of Dargai, a traditional Northumbrian bagpipe song, and this sets the tone for the majority of the disc. The Grails' songs are all mid-tempo and I would compare their sound to Piper-era Pink Floyd or John Cale's solo releases. While tracks like Redlight and Fevers seem to push up to the darkness and intensity that can be found in some of the Velvet Underground or post-Piper Pink Floyd releases, the Grails never cross over the line. Looking at the CD as a whole, it is an enjoyable listen. While the band's sound is consistent across tracks, they aren't boring. The only minor issue is that the songs aren't different enough for any particular tracks to stand out. This isn't a bad thing though -- I simply listen to this disc start-to-finish everytime that I pull it.
