Charred Walls of the Damned Release First Single from Forthcoming CD (Metal Blade)
Charred Walls of the Damned is a new “super group” formed by drummer Richard Christy (Death, Iced Earth, Howard Stern show) that features “Ripper” Owens on vocals, and Jason Sucof (guitar) and Steve DiGiorgio (bass). DiGiorgio was a member of Death, Control Denied and Iced Earth and Sucof has written and produced a number of metal band; most notably Black Dahlia Murder, All The Remains, etc.
Charred Walls of the Damned combines Death’s technical precision and intensity with Ripper's clean vocals and the melodicism of bands like Judas Priest, Iced Earth and Anthrax.
Christy explained on The Howard Stern Show that the band's name was derived from a series of radio prank calls he and Sal the Stockbroker made to a Christian radio station. In mentioning the pranks they had been receiving, the radio show host described how he prayed for the pranksters to be "saved by God's grace and not in the devil's hell where you'd be put in your nails in the charred walls of the damned".
The band signed with Metal Blade and their debut CD is due out in February of next year. The first single, “Ghost Town”, is now available on iTunes. The band recorded a cover of Powermad’s "Nice Dreams" which will be available on the Japanese CD and as a bonus track on iTunes. "I've been a huge fan of Powermad's classic 1989 album ‘Absolute Power' since it came out. I wanted to do a cover song that I loved and at the same time, one that a lot of people probably have not heard. ‘Absolute Power' has been out of print for some time now so I'm sure the song Nice Dreams will be new to a lot of people, but will also bring back some great memories for metalheads like me who love the song and who love Powermad" explains Christy.
