Alexa Wilkinson @ Living Room, September 27, 2007

Alexa Wilkinson @ Living Room, September 27, 2007Alexa Wilkinson played a free show at the Living Room last Thursday night. I am still somewhat amazed at what a accomplished live performer Alexa is. As a point of comparison, I have seen a number of artists this early in their career and they still have the somewhat goofy "gee mom, I'm on stage" persona.

Alexa is touring behind her recently released debut CD "Lullaby Appetite". (Check out Interest of Saving Time from the new CD). Most of Alexa's set was from this CD but she worked a few new songs in as well.

Nov. 6, 2007 6:00P World Cafe Live (w/ The Samples) Philadelphia, PA

Alexa Wilkinson Plays 3 Shows in Town This Week

Alexa Wilkinson @ Mo PitkinsAlexa Wilkinson has been around for a while but I just got turned on to her over the summer. I caught her show at Mo Pitkins in June and thought she had a great stage presence. Not that age is necessarily a limiting factor but I haven't seen too many musicians this early in their career conect as well as Wilkinson did with the crowd.

Alexa WilkinsonIn terms of sound, I would compare Alexa Wilkinson to the best side of Shawn Colvin. Wilkinson has lately been on some high profile tours which have ranged from touring with Josh Kelley to this summer's Camplified tour (with The Kin and others). After this week in NYC, Alexa will be going on tour later this year with The Samples and Shannon McNally, from Oct. 20 – Nov. 7, hitting 14 cities along the east coast.

Monday Night's Show is at Mo Pitkins (East Village). Tickets are $8 and Alexa is playing at 10:30PM.

Wednesday Night's Show is at Rockwood Music Hall (LES). The show is at 7PM and admission is free.

Thursday Night's Show is at The Living Room. Alexa plays at 11PM and admission is free.

Alexa was recently featured on NY’s CW11 (WPIX-TV) on their “Spotlight On” series last Monday, Sept. 17th. If you missed it, the clip should be posted on CW11’s website in the next week or so.

Exclusive Interview with Alexa Wilkinson

Alexa Wilkinson @ Mo Pitkins, June 7, 2007I had the pleasure of speaking with Los Angeles based singer/ songwriter Alexa Wilkinson this past Monday.

It was a real pleasure to talk with someone who was that warm and genuine. She was nice enough to allow me to record the conversation and (despite the equipment failure on my end) here is a link to the podcast feed and mp3.

Alexa Wilkinson @ Mo Pitkin's on Thursday, June 7th

Alexa Wilkinson @ Mo Pitkins, June 7thLos Angeles' Alexa Wilkinson is playing Mo Pitkin's on June 7th in support of her debut CD Lullaby Appetite, which was released on DNK Records.

I haven't heard much by Wilkinson but she generated a good buzz after a show at the Viper Room last year and I like her sound based on the video that she has posted online (link) and the tracks on her MySpace page (link).

“I think a lot of what makes music great is the story behind the artist. All artists have a shared passion for music, but every single person has a different story and a different experience to share.” – Alexa Wilkinson

ALEXA WILKINSON is more than meets the eye. Her pretty, girl-next-door face on a petite 5-foot 4-inch frame suggests nothing of the emotional maturity displayed in her debut album “Lullaby Appetite,” now available on iTunes and scheduled for public release this June through DNK Records. Alexa’s evolution into a musical artist originated from common childhood experiences.

Lullaby Appetite consists of 11 songs that display a unique of blend of music from jazz, rock and folk influences. Penned and performed by Alexa herself, these songs represent her own personal journey through life, love, acceptance, and lessons learned. Her fresh, smooth vocals slide easily around the extremely memorable melodies, toe-tapping rhythms and sprite guitar playing. The lyrics are rich with expression, exposing a vulnerability and honesty without naïvete. Rather there is an emotional maturity of looking at life with an optimistic eye, accepting one’s mistakes, and moving on.

From the jazz inspired “Sad Eyed Annabelle, to the upbeat and edgy “Good Fight,” Alexa’s songs center around love and relationships, something which everyone can relate to. In “Sad Eyed Annabelle,” Alexa portrays an unhealthy relationship where the girl is manipulating the boy, whereas “Good Fight” reveals Wilkinson’s more playful side, such as picking a fight in a relationship. Fan favorite and Alexa’s first single, “Of Graves” depicts a young woman reminiscing about a past lover, while “Lullaby Appetite” talks about a long-distance friendship.
