Armagedda - "I Am" CD EP Review (Nordvis Produktion)

Armagedda's “new” EP, "I Am", contains four previously unreleased tracks from the now defunct Swedish kvlt black metal band.

Armagedda played raw, churning black metal that rises and falls beneath hoarse, snarled vocals. Moderate tempos and five+ minute songs let the grimness and atmosphere of the music build and these four tracks run for 24 minutes. Lo-fi production adds to the overall darkness of the album but there are hints of melodies within these songs (but no trace of light). The four tracks on “I Am” were recorded circa 2002 and the title track was previously performed during the Marching Towards Christian Extermination tour in 2002.

Vocalist / guitarist Graav and guitarist / bassist A called a halt to Armgedda in 2004 after the release of their third LP Ond Spiritism: Diaefvulens Skalder and the band members eventually resurfaced in the folk-metal band Lönndom.

Baroness Release 'Blue Album' (Relapse); US Tour with Iron Age and Earthless

Savannah, Georgia's Baroness are back with their second full-length CD, Blue Album, which is due out on October 13th (Relapse Records). This new disc follows 2007's Red Album, which was picked by Revolver Magazine as "Album of the Year".

Relapse is taking pre-orders for the CD version of Blue Album and there is a limited edition 2-disc pressing that includes a live disc from 2009's Roadburn Festival. (A vinyl version is due out shortly). For anyone who wants an early listen, three tracks from Blue Album ("A Horse Called Golgotha", "Bullhead's Psalm" and "The Sweetest Curse") are currently streaming on the Baroness' MySpace page.

Baroness is headlining a US tour starting in November with Iron Age and Earthless.

Car Bomb @ Lit Lounge, NYC Feb. 19, 2007

Car Bomb headlined at Lit Lounge last night and played an impressive thirty minute set. Car Bomb is touring behind their debut CD Centralia on Relapse Records which was released earlier this month. The band started the set with a smoking version of M^6 (check out the video for this song on YouTube) and left the crowd wanting more at the end of their set. This is one band that I will make a point of catching next time they are in town.

Long Island's Car Bomb Sign to Relapse and are Playing @ Lit Lounge in January

A few months back, Car Bomb announced that they had signed to Relapse Records. Their upcoming LP/CD Centralia is now available for pre-order and the band is playing a show at the Lit Lounge on Monday, Jan 1st. Also on the bill are Throwing Shrapnel (from MA) and Asra. Tickets are $6.00.

Chris Pennie & Ben Weinman (Dillinger Escape Plan) Live @ Northsix, 12/2/06

Chris (Drums) and Ben (Guitar) from Dillinger Escape Plan were the last act to play at Northsix on Saturday. This is a new, un-named project by Chris and Ben and their take on instrumental rock was much more jazz oriented than the acts that proceeded them. Both musicians are extremely talented and it was nice to see them shine outside of Dillinger's math-core structure.

While the duo's set was predominately instrumental, they did bring Alie up to sing one song. (See picture below - Unfortunately, you can see in the last two pictures that my flash batteries were all but dead by this point in the evening)

Zombi Live @ Northsix, Brooklyn Dec. 2, 2006

Relapse recording artists Zombi followed Maserati. Zombi is a two-piece band that plays a style of prog-rock that would be easily comparable to mid-period Genesis or Tangerine Dream. For having just a keyboard/bass player and a drummer, Zombi produces complex, multi-layered music with a very big sound.



Zombi has been in town a few times over the past few months including a spot opening for Isis at the Avalon in June. Zombi has become a very strong live act and I would expect to see them start to headline some shows in the area in the near future.

The band is currently finishing their tour of the Northeast with Maserati and have a few remaining dates in Canada and Buffalo. Upcoming tour dates are:
