Adam Green Opens for The Cribs Tomorrow Night at The Fillmore (Jan. 16th)

DOWNLOAD: Adam Green - "What Makes Him Act So Bad"

Former Moldy Peaches' singer/songwriter Adam Green is currently out on the road with The Cribs and the pair are playing The Fillmore at Irving Plaza tomorrow night.

Adam is touring is advance of the release of his sixth solo disc, Minor Love, which comes out on Fat Possum on Feb. 16th. The new disc contains 14 folk-rock songs reminiscent of the ‘60s and ‘70s. British magazine Artrocker recently described Minor Love as Green's “best work to date” and the songs range from the ruefully ruminative opener “Breaking Locks” to the grooving, velvety “Buddy Bradley,” the ‘70s glam stomp of “What Makes Him Act So Bad” to the haunting “Cigarette Burns Forever” and “Boss Inside".

Minor Love was recorded in Los Angeles, CA, in late spring with producer and friend Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Little Joy). Green plays the majority of the instruments on Minor Love himself; guest players include Georgeson and Rodrigo Amarante of Little Joy.

Tickets for tomorrow night's show at $27.50 and doors are at 8:30PM.

The Vamps (J-Rock) Play The Fillmore @ Irving Plaza Tomorrow Night

The Vamps Start Their US Tour Tomorrow at The Filmore @ Irving PlazaJapanese psychedelic rockers The Vamps start their US tour tomorrow night at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza.

The main men from The Vamps, HYDE (L’Arc~en~Ciel) and K.A.Z (Oblivion Dust), have a solid reputation on the J-Rock circuit with their individual projects. Their joint collaboration, The Vamps, played their first nationwide tour of Japan in 2008 to sold out crowds.

The band's newest (self-titled) disc came out last month and is available from iTunes.

The band looks like a wild live act and here is a live video that was filmed this past May at Club Citta' in Kawasaki, Japan.

Day-of-show tickets for tomorrow night's show are $35.

Satellite Party @ Irving Plaza (The Fillmore), NYC 9-5-07

Satellite Party @ Irving Plaza, Sept. 5, 2007Once Mink left the stage, the chants of "Perry... Perry" started. The room was full for Mink but the crowd seemed to grow exponentially between the sets.

I have seen Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros about a dozen times in total and Perry continues to be the ultimate showman. It must be tough to be in a band with Perry as he is such the focal point for the crowd. Last month, Nuno Bettencourt and Kevin Figueiredo left the band. Their replacements sounded great but I don't think anyone at the show noticed that two of the original members were missing.

Satellite Party @ Irving Plaza, Sept. 5, 2007
The set list was a mix of cuts from the Satellite Party CD mixed with classic Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros.

I didn't snag a setlist (and wasn't trying to write one down when the band played) but I did find a setlist on the 'net from the band's show on 9/1. This looks pretty close to the band's set at Irving Plaza.

01. Wish Upon a Dog Star
02. Just Because
03. Under the Tahitian Moon
04. Mountain Song
05. Insanity Rains
06. Hard Life Easy
07. Superhero
08. Summertime Rolls
09. Pets
10. Only Love, Let's Celebrate
11. Been Caught Stealin'
12. Stop
13. Ultra Payload
14. Jane Says

Mink @ Irving Plaza (The Fillmore), NYC 9-5-07

Mink @ Irving Plaza, NYC 9-5-07Mink opened for Satellite Party at Irving Plaza on Wednesday and it was obvious that a lot of the crowd at the show was there for Mink. Mink hasn't been playing together all that long but the place was packed by the time the band took the stage.

The band played a 12 song set which included 11 of the 12 songs from the band's just-released debut CD along with a cover of Bowie's Suffragette City. The only song on the CD not played was "Will Not Let You Down", which is a mellow, melodic tune in the style of early Smashing Pumpkins.

Mink @ Irving Plaza, NYC 9-5-07Concentrating on their rawk songs, the band played with a swagger that I haven't seen since D-Generation first hit the scene. I've seen the band labeled as power-pop (I think I used this label in a previous post) but they also have a raw NYC edge in their live show.

Mink @ Irving Plaza, NYC 9-5-07
The band was working hard this night and played a total of three shows on Wednesday (Virgin Mega before the Irving Plaza show and Snitch after the show). Check out this clip from the Virgin Mega performance.

Here is the band's setlist from the show:
1) Madame Chung
2) Talk to Me
3) Sweeter
4) Dematerialize
5) Pressure
6) Jodi
7) Crazy
8) Untouchable
9) New York Summer
10) Suffragate City
11) Pills
12) Get It Right

From Autumn to Ashes @ The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, NY, April 20th

I haven't heard the new From Autumn to Ashes CD (Holding a Wolf By the Ears was released earlier this month on Vagrant Records) but their live show was great. The band doesn't look impacted by the departure of singer Ben Perri (they actually sound a bit stronger than the last time I saw them play) and Francis Mark is a great front-man.

Haste The Day @ The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, NY, April 20th

I hadn't seen Haste The Day prior to Friday's show at Irving Plaza. These guys are a great live act and their show is intense. The band plays with a passion and conviction that is impossible to fake. In a recent review of the band's new CD, I compared them to a less-intense All That Remains. After seeing their live show, I am not sure this comparison holds as the band plays hard and can hold their own with any metal band. The band doesn't sacrifice any of the melodies and harmonies in their live show but I think the production on the CD hides some of their sonic intensity.

This is really a band to catch live. (They are back in town at the Bamboozle Festival on May 6th with My Chemical Romance.)

For whatever reason, the pictures I took of front-man Stephen Keech and bassist Mike Murphy really didn't turn out that great. As such, I wanted to include the picture below which I took at an interview session with the band earlier in the day on Friday.

Maylene and The Sons of Disaster @ The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, NY, April 20th

Dallas Taylor - Maylene and the Sons of DisasterI haven't kept up with what Dallas Taylor has been doing since leaving Underoath so I was looking forward to hearing Maylene & The Sons of Disaster's set at Irving Plaza last night. The band is quite impressive live. The obvious comparison would be to Clutch but, with the band utilizing three guitarists, I can't help but think of Lynyrd Skynyrd. This southern metal sound really seems to work for the band and Dallas' voice sounds great.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster @ Irving Plaza 2007
The band just released their second CD entitled "II" on Ferret Records last month. Based on the band's live show, it looks like this CD is well worth checking out.
