This is my 'pick of the week show'.
Brooklyn's Motel Motel just released their debut full-length CD New Denver. I've been getting into the tracks that are streaming on the band's MySpace. The bands sound is alt-country meets alt-rock and the amalgamation is pretty cool. The band list their influences as Gram Parsons and Townes Van Zandt but go on to say that "unlike their more direly nostalgic peers...motel motel imbue the gothic storytelling of their forebears with a nubile energy that suggests they're living just as hard but having more fun."
Check out Harlem from New Denver.

I spent a couple years working out in Northern California and still try to keep up with the West Coast music scene. Magic Bullets have been selling out the clubs on the West Coast and the band is making their East Coast debut with two shows at Piano's on Wednesday and Thursday.
Check out some of the tracks on Magic Bullets' MySpace page: "Red Room" has been getting some commercial airplay on the West Coast but my favorite track is "The Upstairs Flight", which has a great 80's post-punk sound.
Here is also a video from Magic Bullets:
Tickets for Thursday's show at Piano's are $8.00. Magic Bullets plays at 11:15PM and Motel Motel plays at Midnight.
