It is getting pretty interesting in watching how Target, Walmart and BestBuy have moved from being retailers to a direct part of the music industry.
BestBuy is broadcasting on its website the encore from The Police's final show at MSG tomorrow night. (Having now watched farewell tours from Elton John, Kiss and The Who, I'm not personally convinced that The Police are going to walk away from this.) Cynicism aside, if you go to BestBuy's "The Police" page tomorrow at 10:45PM, they will be streaming three "of the last four songs" from the show.
BestBuy also announced that they have the exclusive distribution for a new Police live disc ("Certifiable") from the reunion tour. The show is from a 2007 performance in Buenos Aires. I'm guessing that this is the 12/1/07 show - there are a number of audience videos from this show up on YouTube if anyone is curious. What's interesting is that in addition to the expected DVD[or Blue Ray]/CD set, BestBuy is also offering the show as a three LP set. If the LP is limited, my guess is that it will disappear quickly and end up on on eBay with a 200%+ markup.
